daycation!

yesterday my roommate and i decided to take a day trip to Tucson to see this movie in the IMAX theater.

i know, a four hour drive to see a movie seems a bit ridic, but it was totally worth it. the IMAX screen is so much bigger than a typical movie screen, and the 3D really did add a lot to the experience.
i was introduced to Harry Potter by my grandpa J. Mack when i  was younger, and even though i am not a huge fan of fantasy, i fell in love with the books immediately. although the movies are (obviously) not as good as the books, i still love them as well.
the characters in the story were roughly my age when the first movie came out, so it was fun to relate the them and grow up along with them. watching Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint grow up and evolve as actors has been a fascinating experience. in the last two movies there is a striking difference in the way they portray their characters.
HP 7 pt 2 was extremely well done, and it was a bittersweet experience knowing that i have no future HP movies to look forward to. luckily, i can relive the Hogwarts experience over and over again through the books (and dvds).

naturally, while we were in Tucson we decided to take advantage of other things that are not offered in Las Cruces, such as this place!

we also got some shopping done. i bought a wallet and necklace at this store, which had so many cute things, and i bought a beautiful new quilt at Urban Outfitters, which i am pretty stoked about, as my old quilt was mostly white and had acquired a number of mysterious stains.

(not a great pic, but you get the idea of the new quilt)

on the way out of town we stopped at the Triple T travel center, which was voted the #2 truck stop restaurant in the country. we got to eat a huge breakfast for dinner for only about $7 each, and it was quite delicious. i had corned beef hash, which came with 3 eggs (cooked any way you like -- over easy for me), potatoes, and biscuits and gravy. Kristen opted for the huge TTT burrito and had to bring half of it home for breakfast today. we were too full for dessert, but they are famous for their deep dish hot apple pie. i've had it before though, and it is well worth stopping in for if you are ever in the area!

the drive home seemed ten times longer than the drive there, but luckily Kris and i are easily amused and kept ourselves entertained pretty well. all in all, it was fun to get away, even if it was just for the day.
