Morning Quinoa

If you're a regular reader, you know that I am always trying to get fit. I'll do good for a little while, lose a couple pounds, and then something will happen and I'll get out of my routine and gain those pounds right back. Something happened in the past couple days that has inspired me to get fit (once again) and this time, I'm determined to stick to a plan. Part of my plan is to be vegan before dinner. (This was also one of my 25 before 26 goals that I have failed to keep up with.) This morning I made breakfast quinoa, which is a fantastic vegan breakfast option.

Ingredients
1 part uncooked quinoa, rinsed
2 parts non-dairy milk alternative (I like unsweetened almond milk)

Optional Add-ins
1 Tbsp chia seeds (if you use these add an extra liquid, as chia seeds absorb liquids)
Dried fruit
Nuts
Blueberries
1/2 banana, mashed
Cinnamon
Nutmeg
Honey, agave nectar, or other sweetener

Method
Combine quinoa and "milk" in small saucepan (and other optional ingredients). Bring to a boil, turn heat down and simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until all liquid is absorbed.

If you're using fresh blueberries, add in when almost all of the liquid has been absorbed. I like to add the nuts at the very end. All other ingredients can be thrown in at the beginning.

Hair Funk

I've been trying to grow my hair out for the longest time. But once my hair hits about shoulder length, I feel like it stops growing, looks boring, and I chop it off.

Like a few summers ago when I got this super cute A-line cut!

Recently though, I had gotten really close to achieving the long(er) hair I so desire. And then... I got this awful mullet cut. It was kind of my fault. You see, I'm not all that picky about my hair. I mean, it's hair. It'll grow back. Whatever. So I tell the girl that I'm trying to grow out my hair, but I need my dead ends trimmed because I pick at split ends and it's bad. So her way of cleaning up my hair while retaining the length? This mullet 'do.

I know what you're thinking. It does not even look that bad, and it is not even a mullet. Wrong. Weird, choppy layers in front, tons of texture, and way longer in the back. Like, it was a V shape. I was initially terribly upset, but me being the down-to-earth girl I am, quickly got over it. It's hair. And it wasn't a bad cut, just not my style. As much as I'd like to pull off the edgy, alternative kind of look, it's just not me. So recently I went and got the back trimmed up, and now it looks a million times better.

And I'm bored. Again. I was planning on treating myself to an ombre hair color, but I've decided to put that off and buy myself a tattoo for my birthday in December instead. So, I've been collecting pictures of ladies with lovely long hair, to remind myself to be patient and stop picking my split ends. Besides, I want to have long hair for Jenna's wedding next summer (:

This long ponytail looks so much more elegant than my stump.

Again, elegant with a simple bow.

A messy sidebraid. Perfect for a lazy fall day.

Braided headband, for the hair of a goddess.
For a hippie-esque look

Not that I could pull this look off, but I love how wild her hair is.

In With the New

You're probably wondering about the recent changes I've made on here. Or maybe you haven't even noticed. Either way, I'm going to ramble about said changes. Back to my original thought. Why the blog changes? Well for one thing, I'm restless. And fickle. I just can't seem to find the right theme, or direction, to take this blog in. I'm still working on this aspect, but I do have ideas about what I do and don't want to incorporate. For the most part, I don't want this blog to be about my personal life at all. Obviously, I can't remove myself completely from it, and it wouldn't be good if I did. But I do want to keep my distance from it.

So what's with the name? I feel like whiskey and glitter represent two aspects of my character. Whiskey is my rougher, DGAF side. Glitter is the girly, sometimes childlike part of me. Combined, these two things definitely don't represent my whole being, but separately they do show two faces that I turn towards the world.
